Restaurant Olympics Serves As a Way to Relax

Dozens of teams of Rehoboth Beach and Dewey Beach restaurant staffers braved the rainy weather to take part in the third annual Restaurant Olympics.

The teams of six took part in a variety of events in the sand and water at the Dickinson Street Ruddertowne beach, including a kayak race, a bat spin race, an egg toss and a drink service race. It culminated with a tug of war won by the Rusty Rudder.

Organized by the Dewey Business Partnership, the event is serving as a fundraiser to raise money for barricades, as seen at The Starboard, to help with pedestrian safety.

€It's a great time at the beach,€ said DBP executive director Kelly Ranieri. €This is where your great beach memories are made.€

Ranieri said while the kayak race can be memorable, her favorite part is the tray carrying races.

€That really epitomizes the great servers we have at the beach,€ she said.

While Evan Donovan's primary goal of defeating the Rusty Rudder didn't come to fruition, the day was a fun way for him and others to get out of working for a few hours.

€It's incredible,€ he said. €The camaraderie is at an all time high.€

Brian Ross, a server at the Stingray, said his team prepared with a breakfast of champions, and he was happy with his team's performance, which was done in front of a large contingent of fans cheering them on.

He said it's a bonding event for the restaurant workers of the resort towns.

€It's fun,€ he said. €We get to see each other out, but we never really do anything all together. This is a cool event that brings everyone together.€

For others, the Restaurant Olympics serves as a way to relax for a few hours during a busy summer season.

€We're all just drinking, having a good time, kind of competing with all the other restaurants,€ said Jason Powell, a server at Nicola's on the Avenue. €It's kind of cool to see where we stand, but it's always a fun time. It's not really competitive where you get mad, but it's a fun competitive.€

Equilibrium recently launched MediaRich CORE Server 3.9.8, featuring UniZoom, a new technology that enables full-page and multi-page zoom of high-resolution videos and images.

Sean Barger, CEO, Equilibrium said, "Our new MediaRich Core technology really simplifies workflow, further cutting labor costs for those companies whose employees work with media assets day in and day out."

"Users can instantly view filetype, without having to wait for re-processing, and they can do this on any device including smart phones and tablets, in HD quality, and there is no bandwidth, compatibility, or locational limitations when previewing detailed files with MediaRich CORE."

MediaRich CORE virtually eliminates the need to pre-process content for websites, smart devices and apps, and is ideal for today's multiscreen environments, including video streaming services like Connected TV, and it works in low-bandwidth environments. It supports any file type, without requiring special software or having to download entire files.
