Gardening is a favorite activity among many people.
It is the practice of growing plants for consumption as well as aesthetic purposes.
This article is about factors important for gardening.
This is a rather basic introduction, though.
The factors are as the following: 1.
The right place to get sufficient sunlight One of the most important factor is the availability of sunlight to the selected spot.
The crucial rule is to get the sunlight to be as evenly distributed through the day as possible.
2.
The type of soil used.
Basically, there are about five types of soil.
These soils are namely: A.
Sand.
This type of soil inherently lack nutrient.
B.
Peat.
Peat is usually rich in nutrient.
C.
Clay.
The problem with clay is that it does not allow water to drain away easily.
D.
Silt.
When wet, silt has bad drainage.
E.
Chalk.
Chalk does not retain nutrients very well.
The type of soil will determine what type of plants can be planted on it.
When preparing the soil, just by spading the ground is not sufficient.
The soil will still be too lumpy.
We must use the spade to break up the lumps into smaller pieces.
This is important for planting of the seed.
Big lumps of soil will create large spaces that is difficult for young roots to penetrate.
If the soil is still lumpy, we may have the use the hoe as well.
After lumps has been sufficiently broken, use the rake to make the soil bed fine and even.
3.
Water.
Plants need water in order to grow.
Therefore they need to be regularly watered.
4.
Nutrients This is partly related to types of soil.
Plants need nutrients in order to grow.
Their nutrients usually come as fertilizers.
We have come to the end of the article on gardening.
