There are numerous exotic locations available for yoga retreats across the world. "But I can learn the same yoga postures in the yoga centre across the next block," you may ask. Well, the posture can surely be learnt and perfected in the yoga center across the block, but you are definitely missing out on the magic created by learning an ancient art while holidaying. In my adventurous opinion, a yoga holiday should top the chart as the best way to holiday!

When you decide to go on a yoga retreat, you commit yourself to an alternative lifestyle. This is in contrast to your usual daily yoga routine whereby stresses and constrains of daily life keeps you caught up. On the other hand, imagine a pristine beach location in Goa or Bali, where you can actually feel morning sun touching your skin. This is what I am talking about! When you choose to learn yoga as a holiday option, you get the chance to immerse yourself completely in a natural environment surrounded by tranquil people.

The second reason to choose a yoga retreat as the next holiday destination is that it deepens your yoga practice. It lets you to travel within. In most of these retreats, silence is appreciated and encouraged. You don't need to communicate with anyone and can choose to sit alone and meditate. The idea of yoga was never to attain physical perfection in body or postures. The root of the word "yoga" is derived from a Sanskrit word "yuj" which means "to unite or integrate". But what does it integrates, you may ask? It integrates and aims to harmonize the body with the mind. Inner peace is only the end result you achieve when you are able to integrate your body with your mind through extensive postures and breathing techniques. Deep meditation is what we are looking at in a yoga holiday.

The third reason to choose a holiday to learn or perfect yoga is that it changes your habits permanently. How? The day starts in the early hours of morning, maybe 4 am - 5am and usually ends by 10 pm. The use of non-vegetarian or heavy food type is mostly discouraged. Your spiritual retreat allows you to take fresh fruits and vegetables for few days accompanied with daily exercise. This is probably the best way to detoxify your body, mind and soul, and initiate a long but rewarding inner journey.
