Why Don"t Women Have Hair Restoration Choices?
This is usually surprising to people because you hardly ever hear about female hair loss while male hair loss is big news and there are several treatments targeted directly to male pattern baldness.
Women, on the other hand, have generally been forced to rely on hats and wigs to cover up their thinning hair problem as it was not socially acceptable for a woman to let it be known she was having balding issues.
Luckily, this is starting to change, although slowly.
There are a few drug therapies that can be utilized by women, although not as many as for men, and a new hair transplanting procedure offers help for women on that front also.
It is about time that women are allowed to take their hair loss out from under wraps and actually get the relief they need.
One promising drug therapy uses the FDA approved drug Minoxidil to treat female hair loss.
This drug was originally developed as a medication for high blood pressure but during trials is was also shown to be a positive treatment for hair thinning in men.
Further trials on female hair loss has now confirmed it is effective for women with thinning or balding hair also.
When men use the drug, it is applied in a topical solution which means it is massaged into the scalp twice a day, the strength of the active ingredient is 5%.
For women the strength is set at 2% by the US Food and Drug Administration but many women have been using their husbands 5% solution for years with good results and no side effects.
Hair transplants are also now available for women after years of waiting.
Generally a woman will have thinning hair over her entire scalp which does not leave a good hair donation area for transplants.
This new technique can now transplant body hairs into the scalp as a way to fill in the thin spots.
This body hair is not a direct match due to texture but is works very well as a filler.
Since women do not usually have a receding hair line like men do, just filling in the balding areas with new hairs does wonders for their hair loss situation.
Many women have used this technique with great results.
Check with your local hair restoration clinic to see if they do hair implants for women as part of their therapies.
