How Do I Transfer Pictures, Files, Etc to a New Hard Drive?
- 1). Connect the data transfer cable to each computer via a USB port. This will open the data transfer wizard that is a part of your Windows operating system.
- 2). Choose which computer is new and which computer is old. This question will appear on each computer. Select "New" on the new computer and "Old on the computer that you wish to transfer files from.
- 3). Select the files to transfer. The data transfer wizard will allow you to select the files you wish to transfer as well as the location to transfer them to on the new computer. Once this is set, click "OK" to begin the transfer. Depending on the number and size of the files this may take some time. When the transfer is finished the process is complete.
- 1). Plug the new external hard drive into a USB port. If you've installed a new hard drive into your computer, the connection will already be established. Open "My Computer" and verify that the external hard drive is active and usable. It will show up with a letter and be listed as an external device.
- 2). Open the folder from which you wish to transfer files. A single click will select the file. To select several files from within the same folder, then press the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard while clicking on the files.
- 3). From the top of your files screen, click on "Edit" and then select the option to "Move to Folder" and choose the new hard drive from the list that appears. Click on "OK" to move the files and complete the process.
