Patience in Sports Betting
I've been trying to preach patience and preparation above anything else to people trying to improve their handicapping. I've already gone into the homework aspect of things, time to dig a little bit deeper into the importance of having patience.

For a lot of gamblers, Monday will start a new week with their local bookmaker. Which means you square up with whomever and you're balance is now at $0. In that case, what is the most dangerous day of the week for that person? If you said Sunday, you'd be right. Sure it's important to start off strong on Monday so that you're not trying to dig yourself out of a hole all week, but Sunday is where people tend to get out of control. Maybe you have a decent size debt and you think to yourself "man, I can turn things around if I just double down and win." You may win that bet. You may even win the one after that. But sooner or later you're luck will run out and you'll find yourself in a debt that is a lot worse if you had just kept cool and kept grinding. You'll then say to yourself "what could possibly have been going through my head when I made that crazy bet." We've all been there; my goal is to make sure we don't ever go back there.

There's also the other side of the situation. You're on a roll. Every bet that you make just seems to turn to gold the second that it is accepted by your bookmaker. All week long you've bet smart and you have all the confidence in the world. You figure that you're playing with house money anyways, so why not get a little crazy. However the flaw in this logic is that you are not playing with the house's money, you're playing with your money. So of course the betting spree doesn't turn out the way you wanted and you've given back a week's worth of work just like that. If you've worked hard at your place of employment all week long, would you still be betting way more than normal like that? I doubt it. And why not? It's still your money either way but for some reason bettors have it in their mind that since they're not holding the cash at the moment that it's not theirs.

I have a developed a system that is proven over the past 15 years to be successful. However I still know that a lot of my clients are not winning as much as they should. Betting other games and gambling in online casinos are a major reason why a lot of my clients have reduced profits. If everybody would stick to the system and show some self discipline and patience, we would all be making money which is the reason we are all in this business.

Someone once asked me which is better, winning a game or laying off of a losing game? Tough to answer, and it will certainly make you think. The point that he was trying to make is that you may be able to pick winners, but what good is it if you're picking just as many losers to go with it? Do your homework, find some value and make smart decisions. If you have even a little bit of doubt, then lay off. There will be days where you just can't find any value at all. If this is the case, don't just go with whatever game you feel pretty good about. Take the night off, regroup, and get back at it the next day. I know a professional handicapper who makes a prominent living betting the NFL, and patience is his specialty. He actually only made 11 bets this past season. That's right, 17 weeks and he only made 11 bets. He went 10 and 1 and made a profit that most people dream about. This is an extreme and commendable case of patience, but I'm sure you get the point. The key to this business is quality and not quantity.
