Searching for Real Estate

• 1). Go to a reputable MLS on line (see Resources). The National Association of Realtors offers a free on line MLS. Alternatively, you can search for a state or city-specific MLS by entering your state's name and "MLS" in your favorite search engine. For example, a search for "Maryland MLS" returns the "MLS Maryland" listing system.
  
  
• 2). Click the state in which you would like to search. Alternatively, enter the city, zip code or select the state from the "State" drop-down menu and click the "Search" button.
  
  
• 3). Scroll through the listings to locate a property that interests you. Using your mouse, click your Internet browser's side bar to scroll through and view listings.
  
  
• 4). Click a listing that interests you. The listing opens and provides additional details, including square footage, price, pictures (if available), and broker or agent contact information. More detailed listings provide information about the school district, payment calculators and annual tax estimates.
  
  

Listing Real Estate

• 1). Go to a reputable For-Sale-By-Owner (FSBO) MLS system (see Resources). FSBOs provide listing services for a flat fee. The fee can cost under $100 to several hundred dollars, depending on the type of service you select.
  
  
• 2). Click the type of package you would like to purchase. FSBOs offer different packages with a range of services, including unlimited photos, brochures and yard signs, for example.
  
  
• 3). Enter your property's information. Collect details about your property, including square footage, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, property type and year built. Enter the requested details, review the information and click the "Continue" or "Submit" button.
  
  
• 4). Enter your payment information. Typically, you can pay using a debit or credit card. Enter your payment details and click the "Submit" button. Search for your listing using the listing ID or confirmation you receive after payment. This helps to confirm your listing is live and that your details are correct.
