How to Dual Boot XP & Fedora

    • 1). Install Windows XP. Put your XP installation disk into the drive and reboot your computer. If prompted, press a key to boot from your installation CD. Hit "Enter" to begin the installation. Read and accept the terms and conditions. Enter you 25-character product key once prompted. Press "Enter" to install XP to your hard drive. Allow the installation to complete. Reboot your computer and run Windows XP.

    • 2). Partition your hard drive. You can do so in a plethora of ways. You can use any partitioning software to complete this step. Partition logic, Easus partition and Gparted all offer good options. Make sure your second partition exceeds 10 GB in size. Fedora will need at least this much space to run properly, you may even want to exceed 15 GB to be fully safe.

    • 3). Install Fedora. Place the Fedora installation disk in the drive and reboot your computer. Once the computer starts, press F8 to enter your BIOS settings. You will have to change those settings to boot from CD and restart your machine. Alternatively, some machines may prompt you to press "X" to boot from CD. In this case, simply press "X." Once the Fedora disk boots up, press "Next." Select the second partition as the installation destination. Accept the installation terms and conditions and press "Next" to begin the installation. After the installation completes, you will have a dual boot system of Windows XP and Fedora.
