How to Improve Anime Drawing
- 1). Write down some of Anime's defining characteristics. Use this list to work on your own drawings by comparing the elements of your drawing to those on the list. Look for sharp, almost razor-thin lines. Improve the hair on your Anime drawings by erasing the hair where you find it is to rounded and replacing those lines with sharper points. Anime hair should be spiky.
- 2). Improve the emotional content of your characters. While Anime drawings are usually rendered simply, the expressiveness in the eyes is what characterizes much of the Anime art on the market. Improve the expressiveness in the eyes by enlarging the eyes on your Anime characters. Shade around the eyes to deepen them. Add shading and color to the irises, then use an eraser or your finger to smudge the color. This can add an element of moisture to your character's eyes, helping to bring out emotion.
- 3). Simplify your lines and add shading. Many Anime characters are drawn with few detail lines. Most of the facial features are brought out with various hand pressure when shading. Shade darker around the cheeks and contrast the dark shading with a lighter shading around the eyes. Keep the lines of your character's face either sharp or round. Many Anime characters are distinctly one or the other, depending upon the personality you want to reflect.
