Walking to Get in Shape - Are You Serious?
It always cracks me up to see severely out of shape people powerwalking down the street.
It sounds a bit snobby, I know.
I apologize.
But unless you've spent the last 20 years in bed like that guy from Willy Wonka, then walking will do you very little good AS A MAIN FORM OF EXERCISE.
Notice the capital letters? I suppose I put have been more subtle and used an asterisk, but this is more fun.
Anyway, the reason I singled that out is because walking is an EXCELLENT form of supplemental exercise IF you're already doing something more intense.
Regardless of your weight loss goal, you'll never get there by walking.
Do you think the famous celebrities got to be as attractive as they are from lots of walking? Negative! They all have personal trainers who put them through a balanced workout regimen.
Now, I'm not saying you need a trainer.
I do suggest you do some type of weight (or athletic) training for a more anaerobic calorie burn.
This will also give you a more defined, muscular shape.
Where does the walking fit in? The great thing about walking is that you can do it anywhere.
Using myself as an example, I'm lucky enough to live in an a city where you don't need a car.
What that REALLY means is that there's no parking ANYWHERE.
But what it also means is that I walk quite a bit every day.
It takes me about 40 minutes to walk to the bank, ONE WAY.
However, I enjoy walking because I know the extra activity is helping to counteract how fat I get from sitting at the computer writing articles about fitness!
