How to Copy the Files & Settings to a New Computer in Windows XP
- 1). Connect the new computer to the old computer using a NULL modem cable.
- 2). Click "Start" on the new system. Point to "Programs," "Accessories" and then "System Tools." Click "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard."
- 3). Select "I Will Use The Wizard From The Windows XP CD" on the first screen. Click "Next."
- 4). Place the Windows XP CD-ROM into the optical drive of your old system. Start the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" from the CD.
- 5). Pick the radio button next to "Both Files and Settings." Check the box for "Let me select a custom of files and settings" if you want to select more specifically which settings to transfer. Click "Next."
- 6). Select any additional files or settings to be transferred if you selected the check box. Click "Next." Allow the system to prepare files and settings to be transferred. Click "Ignore" if any of your files are marked as unable to be transferred.
- 7). Start the "Files and Settings Transfer Wizard" on your Windows XP system. Tell the system that you are on the system that you are transferring files to. Choose "I don't need the Wizard Disk. I have already collected my files and settings from my old computer." Press "Next."
- 8). Point the new system to the location where the files are stored on the old system. Manually transfer any files that the wizard was unable to transfer.
