    Sharing Files

    • 1). Run Cat5 cables from the Ethernet connections in all of your computers to your switch or router.

    • 2). Navigate to a folder you want to be able to access from other computers using the file browser. Right-click on the folder and click on "Sharing and Security."

    • 3). Click on the link in the "My Document Properties" window that says, "Network Setup Wizard." Follow the instructions in the wizard to enable file sharing and give your computer a share name. The name of the folder and the name of the computer do not have to be the same.

    • 4). Check the box next to "Allow network users to change my files" if you want people using other computers to be able to change the information in this folder. If not, leave this check box blank. Click "OK." Repeat on any other folders you want to share on this machine.

    • 5). Share folders on other computers on the network by repeating the steps on the other machines plugged into your switch.

    • 6). Access the shared folders from another computer on the network by clicking the "Start" menu and clicking on "My Computer." Click on "My Network Places" under "Other Places."

    • 7). Double-click on the share name for the computer you want to access and double-click on one of the shared folders on that computer.

    Sharing Printers

    • 1). Access the computer connected to the printer you want to share on the network. Open the "Start" menu and click on "Control Panel." Click the "Printers and Other Hardware" and the arrow next to "View installed printers or fax printers."

    • 2). Right-click on the printer you want to share and click "Sharing."

    • 3). Check the box next to "Share this printer" and click "OK."

    • 4). Go to another computer on the network and repeat Step 1. Click on the option to "Add a printer." Press the "Next" button on the wizard. Press the option labeled, "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer" and click the "Next" button.

    • 5). Click the option to "Browse for a printer" and push the "Next" button. Click the printer you shared from the other computer in Step 1 and press the "Next" button. Choose "Yes" on the warning that pops up and click the "Finish" button.

    • 6). Open a document or a page you want to print and click on "File" and "Print." When the option to choose a printer comes up, select the printer you just added to the network and push the "Print" button.
