Fun Things to Do in Salem, Massachusetts

I don't know about you, but Halloween is probably my most favorite holiday of the year and there is no place that I would rather be spending it than in Salem, Massachusetts.

Hi guys, it's me again, Shelby, and I have to tell you, when Ralph told me that we'd be in the Salem area over Halloween I announced it all over my Facebook page, I just couldn't help myself!

I am so serious when I say that I absolutely adore Halloween, and when you put that together with Salem (one of my most favorite places on the east coast) it was as if someone had special-wrapped me my own personalized birthday present.

I love Salem. Not only do I get to wallow in history (the town was established way back in Puritan times; 1626 to be exact and the focal point of the Salem Witch Trials of 1692) it also has one of the most open attitudes towards Paganism and Witchcraft on the east coast not to mention its progressive attitude in regards to green technology.

But what are history and open or progressive attitudes without a little fun? Well, when it comes to fun, Salem is definitely a happening place.

If you want to find fun things to do in Salem you can start by hopping the trolley that will take you on a tour all around the town.

Yes, you're going to feel like a tourist, but trust me, this is a great way to get a feel for the city as well as figure out just how many places you want to visit, and there are a lot of places you are going to want to visit!

Once you have a feel for the city you can start prioritizing.

Are you interested in discovering more about the history of Salem?

Then you may want to visit the Peabody Essex Museum, the Phillips House, and the Old Custom House down on the waterfront or even the House of Seven Gables which featured so prominently in Nathaniel Hawthorne's Book by the same name.

Or maybe it is the Salem Witch Trials that have always fascinated you.

If so, you are not going to want to miss out on the Salem Witch Museum, the Salem Witch Memorial or Gallows Hill where those accused of witchcraft during that nightmarish year were hung.

Halloween is the perfect time of year for this, and you won't be disappointed.

Even if you are not into history, you're going to find Salem fascinating, especially if you are open to new age or pagan ideas or enjoy the Hollywood fascination with supernatural and horror movies.

There are so many Tarot readers, crystal shops and shops dedicated to Wicca that you'll feel as if you've stepped into a parallel universe.

And with attractions like the Bewitched statue and Count Orlok's Nightmare Gallery (dedicated to horror movies through the ages), you'll never know a dull moment.

So come with me as I take you through my own week in Salem.

By the time we're done the chances are that you will never view witchcraft or the supernatural in quite the same way again!

By the way, if you see a silk lined velvet cloak, let me know! I'm looking for one to go with my Halloween costume and so far I haven't been able to find one that I really liked.

Anyway, bye for now!

Love, Shelby (S.O.S.)
