How to Make a Painting Smaller for Printing
- 1). Scan the painting at a resolution of 1200 dpi or higher, and save it as a jpg.
- 2). Open the digital image of the painting in a photo-editing program such as Gimp or Photoshop. In most photo-editing programs, you'll want to click the "File" menu and select "Open." Then select the image to open it.
- 3). Open the "Image" menu and select "Scale Image."
- 4). Select a unit of measurement from the drop-down menu and enter the new image size. Use a percentage if you'd like to make an image that's half the size or a quarter of the size of the original painting. Use inches, millimeters, points or picas if you need to enter a specific dimension.
- 5). Click "Scale" or "OK" to implement the changes.
- 6). Save the new image. You can save it as a different file by clicking the "File" menu and selecting "Save As." Enter a name for the new file and select "Save" or "OK."
