Niche Marketing is a great way for newbies to start making money online.

Generally, the fewer words a search phrase, known as a keyword phrase contains, the harder it will be to attract search engine traffic from it.
The downside to less competitive keyword phrases is that whilst you have a better chance of ranking well in the search engines for them, they will generate less visitors.
But even though they generate fewer searches and visitors, the visitors you do get will be very targeted to the products and adverts you promote on your site, so you will make more money per visitor than you would from a competitive keyword phrase.

You target a small group of people and their specific needs and provide them with products and information that they are searching for.
You then do the same for another group, and then another and another.
You build lots of small sites.
