  While furniture should usually be tied down when moving it in a truck or van over long distances, sometimes tie-downs are not available. Several tips can help you move furniture without these harnesses or straps.
  
  

Furniture Pads

• Since you won't have any straps to tie the furniture down, it will be necessary to get a number of furniture pads and blankets to cushion the furniture if you have to lay it down or cushion it if it falls. The more of these soft surfaces the better. Most pieces of heavy furniture won't be destroyed during a move, but they can be damaged to the extent that they would be too unattractive to be used in your home. Taping or wrapping pieces of furniture in these blankets is another good idea.
  
  

Wedging Furniture Together

• By effectively filling an entire moving truck or van with furniture in the correct way and making sure everything is secured against the sides and wheel wells of the van or truck, the furniture won't move during transport.
