I have been trying to compare two Cisco products, which may seem quite similar at first glance, but at the same time the newer one (how else) handles lots of additional features.
For instance the Cisco WS-X4516-10GE Catalyst 4500 series supervisor engine V-10GE has the same layer 2-4 switching that previously released 4500 series supervisor engines had, but in addition there's wire-speed 10-Gigabit ethernet uplinks, 136-Gbps capacity and 102-mpps throughput, to enhance resilient control of converged data.
This piece enables business resiliency for enterprises and metropolitan ethernet customers.
Having done some research on the matter, I found out the following.
The Cisco WS-X4516-10GE is a supervisor engine with a 800 MHz speed processor and 512 SDRAM, while there is the much cheaper WS-X4515 that has the same SDRAM amount, but it's processor is running only at 333 MHz.
They both use ethernet, fast ethernet, and gigabit ethernet as data link protocols.
The WS-X4516-10GE has more network/transport protocols, routing protocols, authentication methods, compliance standards.
While both devices have expansion slots for compact flash cards, the WS-X4516-10GE can also handle GBIC's, and mini-GBIC's.
Altogether, the WS-X4516-10GE has much more features, and that is the reason it's used price is around 50% more than that of the WS-X4515.
The American economy has been searching for a way to help it escape a downward spiral.
There has been a focus on two big ideas to bring the country out of this slump: affordable goods and green technology.
Affordable goods can reinvigorate the marketplace by promoting consumer and enterprise spending when available capital is low.
Green technology and services can create a new surge of jobs and a healthier planet.
