The Necessity Of Health Insurance
The question that you have to ask yourself initially is what sort of coverage do you have to have. There are plans for people that need regular visits and have loads of monthly prescriptions. There are also the type of plan that is perfect for people that very rarely need to see the doctor. Many people that hardly ever need medical care think that they are OK without insurance. It only takes one trip to the hospital to change their minds though. Your finances will end up taking a severe beating if you have to have some hospital time without insurance.
There are some big life changes that do warrant the need of acquiring insurance. If college is looming in your future, and you will be leaving home to go there, you need to be sure and have insurance. Maybe you will be getting married. This is when you want to make sure you and your spouse are covered, not when something happens.
That is the problem with being insured. You have to get the insurance before you need it. Life is full of unexpected moments and you don't know what will happen. Once you are out on your own you need to be able to take care of yourself. If something happens to you, your parents won't be right there covering everything.
You can find a plan that will protect you for very cheap if that is what you want. There are some plans that don't cost too much monthly that have pretty high deductibles. These are great if you really can't afford anything much more than that and you don't need regular care or prescriptions. If you have something happen, like an accident, you could end up in the hospital for a few days or weeks. Although you might have to pay a large amount up front, it will be a whole lot less than what you would have to pay if you were not covered.
