Repair for Granite Countertops
- 1). Clean the area around the crack or chip thoroughly with a sponge or cloth dipped in warm, soapy water.
- 2). Dry the area completely and make sure there is no grease or debris remaining. If there is, dry it with a cloth.
- 3). Mix granite-safe epoxy resin according to the manufacturer's instructions and apply it to the chipped, nicked or cracked area with a Popsicle stick or plastic dough scraper. If the crack is deep, use the tube itself to evenly squirt the epoxy into the crack.
- 4). Smooth out the epoxy over the damaged area with the stick or scraper and then use a razor blade or putty knife to scrape off any that remains.
- 5). Let the epoxy dry according to the manufacturer's instructions, but for at least an hour or two.
- 6). Reseal the area where you applied the epoxy with the brand of sealer recommended by your countertop manufacturer. This will add protection to the countertop. If it's been over a year since the countertop was last sealed, consider resealing the whole surface.
