    Embossing Ink or Pad

    • There are a variety of embossing inks with different drying times that affect the embossing powder application process. Dye-based inks dry quickly and are usually not used with embossing powder. Pigment inks are used with embossing powder because of the thicker consistency and slower drying time. Check the label; there are special pigment inks that dry faster than others and will not give the same result.

The embossing pad is often used with rubber stamps as a quick way to transfer a motif. Solvent inks are also used for embossing paper. These inks are solvent based, require special cleaners if spilled and must be used in a well-ventilated area.

    Embossing Pens

    • Although embossing pens are made by a variety of manufacturers with different tip sizes, a double-ended embossing pen has a thin tip for fine lines and a thicker tip on the opposite end for wider lines. These pens are also used to dab embossing ink onto a rubber stamp from an embossing pad to ensure all parts of the motif are covered with ink. The pen is used to draw or write freehand as well. Clear and colored inks are used with the embossing pen.

    Embossing Powder

    • A heat gun tool is used with embossing powder to ensure that heat is blown correctly in a concentrated area. By sprinkling the embossing powder over a stylized motif and applying direct heat, the powder will set as it melts onto the paper, creating the raised, textured finish. These powders are also available in a variety of colors.
