How to Deactivate Ink Tags
- 1). Lay down newspaper or an old towel on a work surface that can handle an ink spill. Put goggles over your eyes to protect them from any sparks.
- 2). Locate the two halves of the ink tag. One half, or front, is located on the outside of the garment. The other half, or back, is located on the inside or underside of the product and contains a cone shape.
- 3). Force the head of a thin flathead screwdriver into several places around the circumference of the back tag. The force from your hands on the screwdriver should crack the plastic, and after cracking it in several places, you should be able to remove the plastic cover from the back tag.
Alternatively, apply the fine saw blade to the cone shape, and saw through the base of the cone shape in a horizontal direction. You may notice sparks. This is front cutting into the metal plate and pin located within the cone. - 4). Cut away any extra pieces of the cone with snips. When the plastic cap is removed, notice the metal plate connected with ball bearings inside.
- 5). Remove the ball bearings inside by prying them up with a sharp kitchen knife. Once the ball bearings are displaced, the metal plate and pin connecting the two halves of the ink tag should be released.
- 6). Pull the top and bottom halves of the ink tag apart.
