In flashbacks, we see Juliet's sister, Rachel, who has an illness. It looks like she has no hair under a scarf that she wears on her head. Juliet injects her with something that she steals from the lab where she works. Later, Rachel tells her that the experiment worked, she is pregnant.

In Juliet's flashback, she says goodbye to Rachel at the airport. She asks if she's making a mistake and Rachel says that she cured her cancer, she got her pregnant, and she's been working for this her whole life. Juliet promises to be back before the baby is born.
Three years later, Ben shows Juliet footage of Rachel playing with a toddler, whom Ben says she named Julian.
