The majority of entertainment involves fictional characters moving about in a fictional world. Yet the truth is that their problems, triumphs, and exploits all reflect happenings in everyday life. On many shows, the plot offers an escape into a universe that would be wonderful to live in or a place with daily thrills. If you want to re-live favorites from past years while also getting lots of programming that pushes the envelope, consider adding satellite TV to your ND residence.

Nearly all of the past sitcoms and drama series are in syndication, giving viewers the chance to relive episodes or catch the scenes they missed the first time around. The time period that your preferred series comes from will determine which network you will enjoy. Nick at Nite has lots of older classics like 'I Love Lucy.' Classic family-friendly shows like 'Family Matters' and 'The Bill Cosby Show' are always fun to see, especially if you remember them from your childhood. TBS, ABC Family, and TV Land are just three of the dozens of satellite TV channels that broadcast syndicated series for anyone looking for a blast from the past.

When it comes to the most successful series of the present, you can take your pick from a wide range of styles and genres. 'House,' a medical drama, has become one of the most-watched programs worldwide. It seems that Gregory House's dry sense of humor and pessimism about life makes it through translations into dozens of languages. He is a misanthrope who leads a talented team of doctors who are in charge of diagnosing strange cases that come into the hospital ER. Most of the time, House takes a nonchalant attitude, making their work seem as significant as the results of a sports match, while the patients are frequently in life-or-death situations.

This medical drama and its popularity followed on the heels of 'ER,' the drama series that lasted fifteen seasons and earned twenty-three Emmy Awards, after being nominated 124 times. In early episodes, George Clooney plays one of the five main doctors alongside actors Anthony Edwards, Noah Wyle, and Eriq La Salle. Julianna Margulies was originally given a small role limited to the pilot, but one of the first-year producers - Steven Spielberg - opted to keep her in the plot. Her character, a nurse named Carol, ended up outlasting much of the original cast. After leaving the show, Margulies then went on to star in the hit new drama series, 'A Good Wife.'

Although most programs from the twentieth century are still in standard quality, high definition has become the norm across the country. The technology has become much more affordable while satellite TV allows virtually every part of ND to get access. Add a DVR receiver to the mix, and you can record shows from any decade before watching them according to your schedule. With original series breaking ground each and every year, everyone in the household will surely find something to enjoy on the dozens of channels broadcasting entertainment around-the-clock.
