Speeding Up A Slow Laptop
Are you sick of your laptop taking forever to complete to simplest of tasks? Of course you are but know that you are not the only person with this problem.
It will happen to all laptops eventually.
You can fix this however and it is rather easy.
Just follow these simple steps on a regular basis and you should have no problems with computer speed.
Defragging I think the reason people over look defragging their hard drive is lack of knowledge about disk fragmentation.
This often overlooked task however can make a big difference in your laptops speed and performance.
Fragmentation, to put it simply is when your laptops files get spread all over your hard drive.
These pieces being all over the place slows down your system because your laptop has to put all those fragments back together again when running any application.
To start a disk defrag on your laptop, open My Laptops, find the drive you to defrag and right click, select properties and find the tools tab.
Now, click on defragment now.
Your laptop will then begin the defragging process.
Depending on the size of your hard drive and the level of fragmentation, this can take quite a while.
Delete or Uninstall Old Stuff Another way to increase laptop performance is by getting rid of the files and programs you don't need or use often that are just wasting drive space.
To perform a disk cleanup go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools and select Disk Cleanup.
Disk Cleanup will then prompt you for what you want to delete.
You might be surprised how much space you can save if you've never ran this program before.
Over time you can accumulate a lot of programs that you don't use often or at all.
Removing these old applications can also free up space.
I usually go through the list and remove stuff I know I don't need.
Be careful though, if you don't know what it is look it up.
You don't want to remove anything important by accident.
Fix Those Registry Errors Your laptop's registry is framework of your laptop.
It stores information about installed programs, hardware and many other aspects of your laptop.
After a while your registry can become corrupt and this can slow down your system.
To resolve a corrupt registry you will need a registry cleaner program.
There are free versions that work just as well as the paid variety if price is an issue.
