The are many reasons why people gain body fat as they grow older; unhealthy eating, lack of exercise etc.
But, did you know? Recent research shows that there is another important factor that works against those people who want to lose fat.
What is this third factor? Answer: Lack of sleep! Lack of sleep causes stress.
If this continues for longs periods of time (weeks, months even years), you the body gains fat in a relatively short time Stress affects how the body burns fat.
Many put it down to one of the signs of approaching middle age.
But that is not the case.
High levels of stress prevents fat burning and actually causes the reverse to happen.
More of the food you eat becomes stored as fat around your stomach, hips and thighs because you live with sleep deprivation.
Stress produces chemicals that attack body.
Cells that produce toxins which if left to build become poisonous.
Fat layers protect vital organs from damage The longer you live with sleep deprivation, the more stress, and the more toxins the body produces.
Toxins build up in the blood and can cause sickness and disease to take hold.
So as a protective measure the body stores toxins deep inside the fat cells under the skin so that the poison is 'buried' safely away.
The greater the stress the more toxins are made, the more the body wants to store fat rather than burn fat.
This is why some people seem to get fatter and fatter no matter what they do.
It's not a joke.
Get a good night's sleep! Sleeping is a time for the body to rest, repair and re-balance itself.
The average adult needs 7-8 hours of quality sleep each night, to really rest the body and the mind.
Whilst we sleep stress levels go down and toxin production is reduced to a minimum.
Seven to eight hours is enough time for the body to stop storing fat and tip over into burning fat.
Many people are keen to reduce the stress in their lives, but fail to understand why sleep is so important in reducing stress.
Young and old alike ' burn the midnight oil' late into the night, and most week days (not just at the weekends) Sleep deprivation is not just the absence of sleep, but the long term 'short changing' that occurs when the body is deprived of 1-2 hours of sleep, day in and day out, this often goes on for years.
