Trevor Bayne has seemingly been around forever and despite his massive experience and litany of accomplishments, the Tennessee native will finally become a rookie of the year candidate in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

The Bayne Story begins like several others who make it to NASCAR ranks but few other rivals can claim to have accomplished the achievements that Bayne has during his first seven years of major league Stock Car experience.


Beyond the success, Bayne is also one of the most personable and good-natured young men currently working his way towards the upper echelon. His pedigree, combined with an unmistakable southern charm and professions of faith make him a total package for any prospective owner. Unfortunately for them, Bayne is taken and has had a spot with Roush Fenway Racing almost from day one.

In 2015, Bayne will finally be full-time in the Sprint Cup Series and it’s been a long time coming for the 2011 winner of the Daytona 500.

Background: Larson was born and raised in Knoxville, Tenn. and has been exposed to racing since the day he was born. His grandfather raced stock cars at Greenville-Pickens Speedway in South Carolina and a chance visit to Bristol Motor Speedway and an introduction to Jeff Gordon made him a fan for life, and ultimately, pointed him towards a career in NASCAR.

His Career: Bayne was first discovered as a Sprint Cup prospect by Dale Earnhardt Jr. when Dale Earnhardt Inc. signed him to a development program in 2008 after a successful stint in the Pro Cup Series. It was during that season that he began competing in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East division, grabbing his first victory at Thompson International Speedway. He finished fourth in the championship standings.

By 2009, Bayne had arrived as a driver in NASCAR national touring, running races for Jimmy Means and Michael Waltrip before joining Roush Fenway Racing in October of 2010.

It was in 2011, in just his second career Sprint Cup start for the legendary Wood Brothers team, that Bayne made history, winning the Daytona 500 in the storied No. 21 car. Bayne went on to have sporadic success with the low-budged Wood operation while competing full-time in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. He has since posted wins at Texas (2011) and Iowa (2014) before Roush Fenway announced that he was finally get the full-time promotion to the Sprint Cup Series where he is expected to compete for Rookie of the Year honors.

Driving Style: Bayne has a youthful aggressive approach but can get conservative as a run extends and drivers settle into place. It’s when Bayne believes that he has a shot to win that he can make some over-aggressive moves that land him in the doghouse with his fellow rivals. But by in large, Bayne is an even-headed competitor that tends to focus on bringing his equipment home in one piece.

Character: While the talent of Trevor Bayne should not go without merit, it is his character that really helps him stand out. Bayne is a devout Christian who always tries to say and do the right thing, a factor that has made him popular with teammates. While some claim that he can be stubborn in a team setting, Roush executives have always praised his ability to gel with his crew chief, teammates and crew members.
