    • 1). Fold a sheet of 100-grit sandpaper in half . Then, using the edge of the crease, lightly sand the inside of the scratch. Avoid sanding through the gel coat down to the fiberglass.

    • 2). Wipe the scratched area clean with a rag that is damp with acetone. Remove any dirt or other residues that may affect the bond of the gel-coat paste.

    • 3). Put on rubber gloves and place a small amount of the matching gel-coat paste on a scrap piece of cardboard. Add the catalyst to the paste following the recommendations on the containers. Thoroughly work the catalyst into the paste using a putty knife.

    • 4). Apply the paste to the scratch using the putty knife. Remove any excess paste using the putty knife and smooth it out so it's level with the surrounding fiberglass. Cover the repair with a sheet of Mylar and let the paste harden for two hours.

    • 5). Remove the Mylar from the repair.
