Web, Sites and Rock n Roll

Since I was a kid I knew I would like to have something to do with the music industry. I have always loved music very much and the thought of what was number one at that time made me cry. Of course first I wanted to be a star but as the years went by I realized I would like to work more behind the curtain. I thought about management of a big band. A good band, not the ones that appear and play plastic blurry sounds they call music. I started to have a mission to make the music market more ambitious. People's ears are lazy. They got used to easy sounds and only that is acceptable for them. They have problems when they hear something more complicated or simply different to what they hear every day. We have to get them used to something totally new, to something good. We have to act slowly and without their notice. It is possible, but we have to know how.

At high school I met many young musicians and I couldn't believe how good some of them were. I kept on asking myself how come such bad things got famous while really good music had to stay underground. I made my mind. I decided to help young bands to become known. I didn't want to make stars out of them. I just wanted the world to hear about them. Now I decided to write about it and give young musicians some tips on how to promote themselves with more than just great music.

First thing you have to focus on is your band's website. I know it's the last thing you have on your mind because you spend all your time practising and all your money on new instruments. It's still worth to give it a try. Maybe you know some young web designer that could design a site for you as a school project or just for fun. It doesn't have to cost you anything, maybe you can offer them your demo CD or a place on a guest list for your next gig. It is important that your website is professionally made and a website design professional can really make it possible with adding a player or even a download section to it. If your site looks poor people who visit it will think the same about your music.

If you are a very busy band and simply don't have the time and possibility to take care of a website you really have to use social networks. Some of them can be helpful to spread the word about your band to other people while the others can promote your music online. Create accounts on as many as possible, I assure you there is no other way to let so many people at the same time know about you. You can let people know about every gig you play and every single you release. You can even ask people for help in creating a logo or a cover for your first album. Interaction with your first fans will guarantee you they will tell the others about your band. Make friends with other bands, some of them are already further than you and you can somehow use their position. Share your music with them and maybe in future you will organize concerts together or go on tour with them. Exist everywhere you can with your band and your music. You will see how fast the information spread; the Internet is truly a magic thing!

So that's it as for online promotion. There are other ways to let the world know about you as well but I wanted to focus on this media because many musicians strangely can't find the Internet helpful in any way. Now you can see it's a huge help. Without it, to be honest, a band doesn't have a chance nowadays.
