Good Morals for Children

    Caring

    • One of the core moral values you can teach a child is the ability to care for others. Empathy, the act of understanding one's own feelings as yours, will stop a child from being a bully or looking down on others. When that child thinks not of himself, but of others, he will naturally want to reach out and help those who need the help, without asking anything in return.

    Respect

    • Teaching children not to judge others based on skin color, weight or disabilities, can also be a good moral lesson. By showing your child that everyone is the same on the inside, regardless of our differences, your child will grow up with respect for everyone. Likewise, imparting the value of being respectful to any religion or cultural differences is necessary as our world moves closer to a global sense of being.

    Always tell the truth

    • Teaching your child to always tell the truth is one of the most important moral lessons you can impart. From the tiny white lie, such as about a missing cookie, to a lie that may put someone's life in danger, teach your child that any lie can have disastrous consequences and, while not easy, honesty is always the best policy.

    Minimizing bad morals

    • Teaching your good morals will be for naught if your child is also overly exposed to bad morals as well. Monitor your child's television and free time. Overexposure to shows featuring excessive violence or degrading conduct can leave an imprint on a child. Talk to your child about anything they may see or hear, as keeping communication open will help nurture your child's morals.
