Trending: Celebrities Trying on Tweed
Long ago in ye olde England, tweed used to be the cloth of choice for country nobility, those who went pheasant shooting on weekends and owned a dozen or so stables. These days however, it can more commonly be seen on the backs of fashionistas and the celebrity elite, who have long adopted tweed as the fabric du jour for those chilly Fall months. Whether it be a blazer, cigarette pants or even an all-out newsboy cap, here I’m curating the trendiest tweed threads around, as worn by some of the most stylish stars…
Lea Michele
Appearing in the Glee press room during Comic-Con 2012, Lea Michele came over all Rachel Berry in her tweed two-piece, which consisted of a Stella and Jamie suit and Bec & Bridge tank. She teamed the outfit with red satin Nichloas Kirkwood pumps, which would have been more suited to the cheer squad of McKinley High.
Anna Wintour
If Anna Wintour is seen wearing it, then you can swear on the bible of Vogue that it’s a trend. Making her presence known at Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 runway show, Wintour wore a classic tweed Chanel dress, which perfectly matched the fashion house’s overriding trend of the season. The famed editor then teamed her timeless frock with a statement necklace – no pearls here I’m happy to say!
– nude pumps and an oxblood croc clutch.
Kristin Scott Thomas and Clemence Poesy
Well, don’t Kristin Scott Thomas and Clemence Poesy just look like two peas in a pod in their matching tweed jackets worn during Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2014 runway show? With Poesy wearing white and Thomas wearing a chalky black/brown, together they are yin and yang as they rock the season’s hottest trend.
Kristen Stewart
Also opting for artic white attire – well, she was Snow White you know -- Kristen Stewart stepped out of her comfort zone during Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week Haute-Couture Fall/Winter 2013. Teaming a classic Chanel jacket with black booty shorts, leather gloves and Jean-Michel Cazabat heels, Stewart reminded us all that she still had a few tricks up sleeves when it comes to styling her tweed.
Kate Upton
Kate Upton would looks good in practically anything (or likewise, nothing), but here the former Guess model brings the sophistication up a few notches at Paris Fashion Week, teaming a classic Chanel jacket with a black shirt, black skinny jeans and an armful of chunky bangles.
Tilda Swinton
Known for being a real fashion risk taker, here Tilda Swinton shows off her conservative side at the red carpet premiere of Only Lovers Left Alive. But of course, Tilda always likes to put a little spin on the latest trends and this Haider Ackermann blazer is no exception with its sparkle shawl-lapel, which she teamed with satin slacks and a brown silk shirt unbuttoned almost to her navel.
Who said tweed and bright pops of color don’t mix? Bucking the trend for monochromatic black, grey and whites, Glee star Naya Rivera dazzled in a scorching hot pink Michael Kors dress, while attending the 2013 Giffoni Film Festival. She teamed her body-hugging wiggle dress with Monika Chiang shoes and scooped back her hair into a fun and fresh ponytail.
And finally, iconic director Sofia Coppola is regularly seen holding her own on all manner of international best dressed lists, and here it’s easy to see why as she attended a Louis Vuitton show as part of the Paris Fashion Week S/S 2014. Naturally Coppola wore a tweed jacket by the event’s namesake brand, LV, tastefully teaming the piece with black pants, sandals, a white tee and leather holdall.
Tres magnifique!
