How to Hang Two Shelves
- 1). Examine the wall space where you intend to hang the shelves to visualize where you want them, if you want them on the same wall.
- 2). Use a stud sensor to identify any wall studs in the area once you have an idea of where you want the shelves to go. Mark the stud locations with a pencil. Your shelf can hold the most weight when mounted to a wood stud.
- 3). Use a drill with an 1/8 bit to drill a pilot hole in the wall where you want one end of the first shelf to go.
- 4). Put a wall fastener into the pilot hole, if you are using wall fasteners.
- 5). Measure the distance between the mounting holes on the back of your first shelf, if using traditional shelves. This lets you know how far apart to place the screws in the wall.
- 6). Measure out the same distance from your first pilot hole on your wall; this shows you the proper distance for the next pilot hole. Lightly mark the second hole's location on the wall with a pencil.
- 7). Hold a carpenter's level up to the wall to ensure that the two pilot holes are level.
- 8). Drill the second hole with an 1/8 bit once you are sure that the marks are level.
- 9). Insert a wall fastener into the second pilot hole, if you are using wall fasteners.
- 10
Align your shelf over the pilot holes on the wall by lining up the mounting holes on the shelf with the pilot holes on the wall. - 11
Use a screwdriver and screw to secure the first shelf to the wall. Use wood screws if you are mounting directly to the wood stud or fastener screws if you have fasteners in the pilot hole. - 12
Repeat the same process for your second shelf.
