How to Install Black Titanium Granite

    • 1). Apply an even layer of thinset in the area where the granite will be installed using a notched trowel. Avoid leaving any areas bare, as you need complete coverage between the substrate and the granite to create a structurally sound bond that will keep the stone in place. If you are installing a slab of granite, cover the entire area; if not, simply spread a small amount of thinset until you are comfortable with your own speed.

    • 2). Skim coat the back of the granite with a thin layer of thinset using the flat edge of the trowel.

    • 3). Place the granite onto the layer of thinset. Apply gentle but firm pressure and move it slightly in all directions while maintaining downward pressure to ensure a proper bond. This applies to tiles as well as slabs of granite.

    • 4). Repeat applying pressure for every piece of tile if you are installing granite tiles, keeping the tiles tight against each other. In addition, use a level to check for a flat surface every three to four tiles. Use the rubber mallet to gently tap tiles if they require additional movement in any direction. The goal is to be able to slide a credit card across the finished surface without it catching on any edges.

    • 5). Make any necessary cuts on the tile wet saw. If you are cutting a slab, use a hand-held circular tile saw.
