    Stitches Used

    • 1). Know the stitches necessary to complete the piece. The chain stitch is made by making a slipknot and putting it on your hook. Use the hook's tip to grab the yarn and pull it through the loop while dropping the loop from your hook. A great illustration of this stitch (and many others) can be found at http://patchworkcrochet.com/basicsa.htm

    • 2). Make a slip stitch by inserting the hook into the V-shape of a stitch on a worked piece. There should already be one loop on your hook. Grab the yarn and pull it through the stitch and the loop while dropping the loop off of the hook. There will be a new loop on your hook.

    • 3). Make a single crochet stitch by inserting the hook in a stitch, grabbing the yarn and pulling it through so that there are two stitches on the hook. Grab the yarn again and pull it through both loops while dropping them so that there is one loop remaining on your hook.

    • 4). Make the half double crochet stitch by bringing the yarn over your hook before inserting it into the next stitch on your piece. Grab the yarn and pull it through the stitch. There should be three loops on your hook. Grab the yarn again and pull it through all three loops while dropping them off of the hook. There should be one stitch remaining.

    • 5). Make a double crochet hook by bringing the yarn over your hook before inserting it into the next stitch. Grab the yarn and pull it through the stitch. Grab the yarn again and pull it through the two loops closest to the end of your hook while dropping them. Grab the yarn one more time and pull it through the remaining two loops while dropping them. One loop should remain.

    • 6). Complete a single crochet decrease stitch by inserting the hook into a stitch, grabbing the yarn and pulling it through. Then do the same thing to the next stitch so that there are three loops on your hook. Grab the yarn and pull it through all three loops while dropping them. One stitch will remain. Furry Leg Warmers

    • 1). Make 35 chain stitches. Join them together into a ring by working a slip stitch into the first chain stitch you made. Mark the beginning of the round with a stitch marker. Then make two chain stitches and work one half double crochet stitch into every stitch in the circle. Join the round by making a slip stitch into the first stitch you worked in this round. Complete a second round exactly the same as the first.

    • 2). Chain three stitches to begin the third round. Work one double crochet stitch into every stitch in the circle, then join the round by making a slip stitch in the first chain stitch you made at the beginning of the round. Make the fourth round the exact same way.

    • 3). Make the fifth round by making three chain stitches, working a double crochet stitch into the same space as the chain stitches, making one double crochet stitch into every stitch in the circle then joining the round by making a slip stitch into the first chain stitch. Make the sixth round by making three chain stitches, working a double crochet stitch into every stitch in the circle then joining the round with a slip stitch in the first chain stitch you made. Complete the seventh round the same way you made the fifth round. Repeat the sixth round until the piece is 16 inches long.

    • 4). Chain one stitch in the next round after your leg warmer has reached 16 inches. Work one single crochet stitch in the first stitch, then work a single crochet decrease stitch over the next two stitches. Work one single crochet stitch into each of the next 16 stitches, then work a single crochet decrease stitch over the next two stitches. Work one single crochet stitch into the last stitch of the round. Make the next round by chaining one stitch then working a single crochet stitch into every stitch in the round. Complete this last round two more times.

    • 5). Cut the yarn and draw it through the last remaining loop. Use the tapestry needle to weave in the loose ends. Repeat the pattern to create an identical furry leg warmer to complete your pair.
