Papers

• The puppy needs to know which door to go to when it needs to go outside. This is done by placing papers by that door. Choose only one door so that there is no confusion. Every two hours place the puppy on the paper and give it a command that tells it what you expect, such as "go potty." If it cooperates, immediately lavish praise upon the dog. Eventually the puppy will learn the command. This takes patience. Do not scold the puppy for accidents unless you catch it in the process. In this case, give a sharp "no," and lift the puppy onto the paper to finish and praise the dog.
  
  

A Designated Spot

• Take your puppy outside every two hours. Choose one spot you want the dog to use and deposit some of its waste on the inside papers of this spot. Show the puppy the spot and give the "go potty" command constantly. Give it plenty of praise when it obeys the command.
  
  

Anticipate

• Observe your puppy's behavior and you will see that it has a schedule of needing to relive itself. This makes it possible to predict when it needs to go outside. Most puppies need to defecate within a half hour after eating. Hard play will stimulate the bladder. The puppy will need to relieve itself after a long nap. Anticipate your puppy's needs and take it outside to its designated spot.
  
  

Success on a Leash

• If the puppy has resisted all other attempts to become housebroken, try this method. Keep your puppy on a leash and with you at all times. Every two hours take the puppy outside to its designated spot and stand still giving the command to "go potty." If the dogs refuses to do anything, repeat the process every two hours until you have success. Do not give up the routine until the puppy cooperates.
