Modern Pinguecula Removal
- A pinguecula is a lesion that forms on the eye. It can cause eye irritation and redness. Left untreated, pingueculae can lead to an infection that causes the eye to swell.
- Untreated pingueculae can lead to the growth of pterygia. Pterygia can mar the appearance of the eye, giving a person the impression that something is in the eye and lead to astigmatisms.
- Light cases of pingueculae are often treated by medicated eye drops. Severe cases need to be removed. Pingueculae are removed by surgery performed by an eye doctor.
