With the large amounts of waste that is created in UK households each year, effective rubbish removal strategies are becoming more of a necessity. Global warming seems to be in the news on a weekly basis so it is a natural occurrence for people to become more aware of what is going on around them and, more importantly, what they can do about it. For people to start to consider how they can attempt to help reduce the effects of climate change, it helps to understand exactly what kind of facts and figures are involved in waste disposal.

Each person in the UK annually disposes an average of around about 500kg of waste, this equates to over 30 million tonnes of domestic waste alone that needs to be dealt with each year. When you look at the recycling figures for the annual domestic waste, you can start to understand one of the major areas where the general public can make a difference. Of the 30 million tonnes of waste produced in homes each year, around 60% of it could potentially be recycled, however, only about 30% actually is.

The above figures only relate to the levels of domestic waste, when you take into consideration the rest of the waste that is produced in the UK the figures make for even worse reading. The overall total comes in at around about 440 million tonnes per annum. The rate at which we dispose of rubbish means that Wembley Stadium could be filled with waste in a week. Recycling figures for the 440 million tonnes are pretty appalling. Almost 90% of waste could be recovered in some form, either by recycling it, using it for compost or by using the waste to generate usable forms of energy, however, nearly 75% is instead taken to landfill.

When you take the above figures into consideration, it shows that it is fairly easy to start making your own small impact on recycling figures. By ensuring your rubbish removal is managed effectively and efficiently you can help to make a difference
