    • 1). Obtain the necessary filing document from the state in which your company does, or will do, business. Most states file business paperwork through the corporations division of the secretary of state or the department of state. A new corporation, generally, will file articles of incorporation and an LLC will file articles of organization or a certificate of organization. A limited partnership will file a certificate of limited partnership and a limited liability partnership will file a limited liability partnership registration form. If your business is already in existence, but has moved, you must obtain articles of amendment or a certificate of amendment to register your new company address.

    • 2). Complete the registration form. While the forms differ throughout the states for initial filings, you must generally supply the name and address of the business, the names and addresses of members, owners or incorporators, the purpose of the business, the contact information for the business's registered agent and any other additional information that the form requests. If you are filing an amendment to your original filing, then you will have to supply the original address and the new address of the company on the amendment form.

    • 3). Submit the form to the state corporations division with the correct filing fee. Filing fees for these documents range from $25 to more than $200, and the appropriate amount for your state will be indicated on the form. Once you have received a notification from the state that your document has been filed, then your company address has been registered.
