How to Make Your Own Personal Totem
- 1). Wrap the brown construction paper around the paper towel tube so the entire surface is covered. Glue the paper on to the tube and trim the overhanging material.
- 2). Measure and cut four pieces of different colored felt. Each piece should be long enough to wrap around the circumference of the tube. The combined widths of the pieces should equal the height of the tube.
- 3). Draw animal faces or images in the center of each felt piece. Use a variety of items to decorate these felt pieces, such as markers, craft eyes, glitter, paper, feathers or magazine pictures. To make a personal family totem pole, use your own photographs or images. Secure items with glue.
- 4). Wrap the first felt piece around the tube and secure it with glue. Wrap the second felt piece underneath the first. Continue with the remaining pieces.
- 5). Draw two wings of equal size on a piece of felt or fabric and cut it out. Glue the wings to opposite ends of a Popsicle stick. Dab glue onto the middle area of the stick and adhere it to the back of the totem pole. Create more wings if you like.
- 6). Place two Popsicle sticks on a flat surface. Dab glue on the centers of both sticks. Press the bottom of the tube on top of the sticks and secure it in place. The sticks help balance the totem pole.
