Lutron Maestro Instructions
- 1). Turn off the circuit breaker that powers the light switch that will be replaced. Attempt to turn on the light switch. If the light goes on, the incorrect circuit breaker has been turned off.
- 2). Unscrew and remove the existing switch's faceplate. Remove the screws on the top and bottom of the light switch and carefully pull the switch from the box. Loosen the terminal screws holding the two black wires to the back or side of the switch, as well as the green ground terminal screw holding the ground wire in place. Remove the three wires from their screws and pull out the switch.
- 3). Use wire cutters to cut off the hooked end of the ground wire coming from the wall box. Hold the end of the ground wire to the end of the new dimmer unit's ground wire and screw on a wire nut. Attach the hooked end of one black wire from the wall box around the shank of the dimmer's black terminal screw. Tighten the screw head to the wire. Attach the hooked end of the remaining black wire to the dimmer's brass screw terminal. Tighten the screw head to the wire.
- 4). Push the attached wires and dimmer unit into the wall box. Reinsert the two screws to secure the dimmer to the box. Push the dimmer's faceplate into the front of the dimmer---it snaps into place. Turn on the power at the circuit breaker.
