The world of 3g budget android gadget has made plenty of progress over the years. The only one question that remains is how good the quality is on budget androids. Many of the budget androids may have a few good specifications but their overall use and performance is abysmal. A budget android smart phone is something that most of us want, and when it comes with good performance, it becomes a gadget that has very high value. The XonPhone 5 has set the pace for it to become one such gadget.

In terms of design, the smart phone has a very minimalistic look. It is essentially made out of plastic, with some metal accents on the sides. The back panel is where most of the design elements seem to have been placed- this is a perforated finish with a matte effect. The phone comes in three colors and the availability of exclusive flip covers enables you to change the colors of the back cover.

The XonPhone 5 by OPlus is one of those budgets android that promise to be different. Its main concept is value for money and so it is a mix of good and features and some pretty basic ones. Here is a quick look at its specifications:

•          5" display (1280x720 pixels)

•          MediaTek MT6582 processor (1.3 GHz)

•          1 GB RAM

•          Mali 400 GPU

•          16 GB internal storage

•          2000 mAh battery

•          Dual SIM

•          8 MP / 2 MP cameras

•          Android 4.4.2 OS

If you have used a 3g budget android with a MediaTek MT6582 processor, you will know what you can expect from the XonPhone 5. This is the chipset that is largely favored by those companies that cater to the Budget conscious segment. This kind of chipset offers good performance and is easier to manufacture. The CPU in the XonPhone 5 is quad core and works at a 1.3 GHz frequency. This along with a 1 GB RAM makes it a good offering at the entry level market, here are the benchmark scores across multiple testing platforms:

•          18511 for Antutu V5

•          17412 for Antutu V4

•          7117 for Quadrant Standard

•          1623 on the Vellamo Chrome Browser

•          1229 on the Vellamo Multicore

•          775 on the Vellamo Metal

The UI may affect how smoothly the interface works, the XonPhone 5 runs on the Android 4.4.2 OS and everything remains unchanged excluding the icons. So it is pretty similar in looks to the MUIU on the budget android smart phone, if you don't like this look, you can always install a third party app launcher. Despite having a 1 GB RAM, the XonPhone 5 does pretty well in the performance department. Ideally it is suitable for those who are using an android device for the first time, or for basic usage.
