Ancient Asian Hair Care
- Since at least the third-to-fourth century, Asian culture has promoted specific hair-care tools. Animal horns, such as rhino, ox and sheep horns were used to make combs with purported healing properties. These combs were touted as having the ability to cure dandruff, headaches and even cool the body.
- Modern women of every ethnicity use hair ornaments. Ancient Asian tradition, however, infused these hair sticks and decorative combs with healing and mystical properties. The use of hair ornaments varied among different cultures according to the political climate and connections of each historic period.
- Ancient Asian haircare products were heavy on traditional herbs. Chinese Angelica and gingko biloba were thought to reverse hair loss, while cactus juice was thought to rejuvenate. Taking traditional Asian herbs both internally and externally was supposed to bring the best results for healthy skin and hair.
