Early Acting Roles:
Hilary Duff began taking acting classes with her older sister Haylie and appearing in local theater productions in the Houston, Texas area at an early age.
Eventually, the sisters relocated to California with their mother to pursue their acting careers. Hilary starred in the 1998 movie Casper Meets Wendy and appeared in a key supporting role in the 1999 TV movie The Soul Collector.
Hilary Duff As Lizzie McGuire:
After being dropped from the cast of the NBC sitcom Daddio, Hilary Duff successfully auditioned for the lead role in the Disney Network show Lizzie McGuire. Duff played the 7th grader Lizzie who had humorous adventures coping with both school and family life. The series ran from 2001 through 2003 and was a major hit among middle school and junior high kids.
Movie Roles:
The Lizzie McGuire success brought several additional movie roles including a movie adaptation of the TV series in May 2003. Hilary Duff also appeared with Frankie Muniz in 2003's Agent Cody Banks and a 2003 remake of the classic Cheaper By The Dozen. Hilary Duff's first singing performance released was the song "I Can't Wait" included on the soundtrack for the Lizzie McGuire TV show, released in 2002. That Christmas Duff released her Christmas album Santa Claus Lane. The title song was featured in the soundtrack for the movie The Santa Clause 2.
In April 2003 the soundtrack for the movie Lizzie McGuire was released and included singing performances by Hilary Duff. The soundtrack was certified platinum by the summer. Duff's first solo album Metamorphosis appeared in late August 2003 and included the popular singles "So Yesterday" and "Come Clean." It reached #1 on the pop albums chart. A year later a second album Hilary Duff became Duff's second album to top the charts. A third album titled Most Wanted compiling her most popular tracks and 3 new recordings will be released in August 2005 preceded by the single "Wake Up."
Hilary Duff's music is loved for its sweet, straightforward bubblegum pop style. She has moved some of her music to more of a rock edge, but catchy pop hooks and Duff's teenage voice remain the key elements of her musical approach.
