In a very small garden you may not need any tools at all, but if your lawn size is above what you comfortably cut with a pair of scissors, you do need some help from good, organic garden tools.
Lawn mowers A lawn mower can be powered either by a fuel, such as gasoline, or by electricity, or even by you! However, gasoline is not a good choice for the organic gardener since we care about the environment, and the exhausts from this kind of lawn mower pollute the air and contribute greatly to the global warming as well.
Alternative power for mowers Propane is an alternative fuel.
When thoroughly burned it emits only water vapor and low levels of carbon dioxide.
Thus it does not pollute the air and helps combat climate change.
Electricity is also a good choice.
It does not emit any exhausts at all, and in addition to that is very quiet.
If you have the possibility where you live you can also select electricity from a renewable and environmentally friendly source, such as hydroelectric power or wind power.
If you think the cord is a hassle, you can choose a cordless lawn mower that is driven by a battery.
Other tools Tools like grass and hedge trimmers, leaf sweepers and blowers as well as brush cutters and tillers are all available as eco-friendly electric varieties.
Shredders or compost mills Almost indispensable organic garden tools are shredders, or compost mills.
If you have a compost (as you should) you can benefit greatly from having one of these, as it will reduce the volume of your garden wastes a great deal, as well as making it degrade much faster.
