    Installing Flash

    • 1). Uninstall Macromedia Flash player from your computer. This is best done from the Add/Remove option in the Control Panel, assuming you kept Windows as your Dell's operating system. Once the list is populated, scroll down to Flash and select "Remove." This will begin a short procedure that uninstalls the outdated player from your computer. Note that if your Dell does not run Windows, this procedure will vary a bit.

    • 2). Restart your computer. This may not be necessary, depending on what version of Windows you have installed and how old the version of Flash is. Users who have installed an alternative operating system, such as Linux, on their Dells will not have to restart their systems.

    • 3). Open your preferred web browser and navigate to Adobe's website, Adobe.com. There, you will find a variety of Adobe's free products that are available for download. Select "Flash Player," which will begin downloading the installation file. Depending on your Internet connection speed, the download could take several minutes.

    • 4). Run the .exe, or executable, file you just downloaded from Adobe's site. The installation process will begin. Again, users of alternative operating systems will not run a Windows executable file, so it is important to download the appropriate installation file for your system. Adobe offers Flash on a number of alternative operating systems, including Mac and Linux.

    • 5). Follow all on-screen instructions and be sure to save any important data you may have entered into your we browser, as the installation may require you to close and restart it for the update to take effect. If the installation has gone well, you should be able to use any Flash content available on the Internet.
