Signs and symptoms of teething
Babies start to dribble very early on but they tend to cut their teeth between six to seven months. Some may have it a little early and others a little bit late. However, it's not a sign that your baby is advance for his age if he cut his tooth early, the same way that he is not a late developer if he cut his tooth late. In fact, it doesn't really mean anything except that you'll probably need to buy more funky bibs and you get to enjoy his toothless grin for longer.
When babies are fretful or have diarrhoea and fever, many parents blame it on teething. But it could be wrong and dangerous. Teething doesn't cause high fever, diarrhoea or vomiting. Teething may cause you to buy more dribble bibs, but it definitely does not cause your baby to be ill. If your baby has a fever and diarrhoea, you need to check your GP.
When your baby's tooth is coming, you may need to buy more dribble bibs because he will be dribbling more than usual, but he may also experience some of these symptoms. They may include a slight rise in temperature, but not a fever. If your child has a temperature of 38 degrees or above, your baby has a fever. Your baby's gum will also be slightly swollen. He will also start chewing more and constantly be rubbing his gums. He can also be restless and irritable and may have disturbed sleep. All these symptoms are mild and should go away without the need for treatment. They should also stop once the teeth are out.
As teething is not an illness, there is no cure for it but you can help reduce the discomfort by rubbing teething gel on your baby's gums. You can get the gel from the chemist. You can also prevent your baby developing rashes on his chin and neck by using bandana bibs.
Bandana bibs are better than traditional bibs because they cover your baby's neck and chest. They are also funky bibs and come in different designs like Giraffe bibs, dinosaur bibs and much more.
So, if your one month old has started dribbling, don't reach for the teething gel yet, shop for more dribble bibs instead.
