How to type a resume 101-Learning how to type a resume is something that many people cover while in school, which may well explain why there are so many people with very similar resumes around! As you may imagine, having a resume that blends in with everyone else's is not the best way to land a job interview, so follow my tips below and learn how to type a resume that really stands out! 1- Only print on one side of the paper.
It may seem economical to do otherwise, but it will look a little quirky and also there is the chance of the back page smudging and rubbing off on other paperwork.
That's certainly not how to type a resume.
Smudging your application onto the tops of everybody else's is not a good way to make an impression! 2- Use white paper or very slightly off-white, and black ink Something I'm asked quite often when explaining how to type a resume is what color the paper should be.
It can be tempting to go for bright yellow or something in the hope of catching the eye of a potential employer, but believe me it won't highlight you in a good way.
3- Don't fold the paper, or use any staples.
Paperclips will do just fine.
It's hard to persuade someone to give you a job after he just cut himself on your staples! Instead make sure the resume is perfectly flat, and if it needs to be sent in the mail use a large envelope so that it fits inside without any folds.
A touch like that can really make you stand out.
4- How to type a resume 101-keep it simple! Leave out the graphics and any shading/lines you were thinking of putting in.
It just doesn't look professional, unless you happen to be a professional typesetter! 5- Use a good quality printer.
A laser printer or some kind of bubblejet printer will usually be best.
If you don't have one available, most copy shops will be happy to print some copies from a disk for a nominal fee.
Hopefully those tips have given you some good advice on exactly how to type a resume, so good luck in your job hunting!
