    • 1). Plant the nasturtium seeds in an area of the garden that has soil that drains well. Sow the seeds in full sun in cooler areas of the United States. Sow the seeds in partial sun in warm, subtropical and tropical locations.

    • 2). Clean all weeds or other unwanted growth from the planting site. Remove the growth by killing it with a grass-killing herbicide or raking it from the site. Maintain a weed-free planting site while the nasturtiums are growing there.

    • 3). Plant the nasturtium seeds 1/2 inch deep into the soil. Make a small hole with your finger or by using a stick. Space multiple seeds approximately 10 inches apart to allow mature plants to spread properly.

    • 4). Water the planting site after sowing the nasturtium seeds. Water the site regularly to keep the soil moist while the seeds germinate in approximately two weeks. Water thereafter, approximately two to three times weekly.

    • 5). Treat aphid problems with water or insecticidal soap. Spray the foliage with a stream of water to wash the insects off the foliage. Spray heavy infestations with insecticidal soap, mixed and applied according to label specifications.
