NLP or Neuro Linguistic Programming has been around since the 70s but yet the concept has not been widely accepted by the scientific community due to some of its claim which cannot be proven scientifically.
Regardless of what the scientific community says about NLP, I am a true believer of NLP as I have personally experienced the power of NLP especially when employing it as sales tactics.
Being an Insurance Agent, I have to face people on a daily basis and the big part of the job is to convince people to buy my product.
Before I was introduced to NLP my conversation rate was around 10% but after learning NLP it went up to around 30%.
Based on my own experience, getting the proper training is the most important thing.
As for myself though, I did not have the privilege to attend such training due to financial constraint.
I did a self-study all the way.
But throughout the journey I made lots of wrong investment.
Some of the books which claimed to be written from an NLP expert were a total crap.
It took me almost 5 years to piece together the big picture of NLP.
Another important element when doing a self-study is to put into practice what you have read.
Without putting the things that you have learnt into practice is as good as not reading them at all.
But nothing beats visual learning.
So in my case, even though I relied almost 80% of my self-study through books, I also constantly checked sources from video sharing sites like YouTube for a better understanding.
As a conclusion, do not be intimidated by NLP.
If an Insurance Agent who never attends university can do it.
