How do I Run a Factory Restore on an IBM ThinkPad R40?

    • 1). Insert the first Lenovo Rescue and Recovery CD into your R40's optical drive.

    • 2). Restart your computer. Press "F1" when the Lenovo logo appears during reboot to access the BIOS menu.

    • 3). Move the "CD Drive" option to the top of the list under the "Boot" menu. Your computer will boot from the recovery CD.

    • 4). Click "Continue" to accept the terms of the license agreement.

    • 5). Click "Full Restore." Select "Continue" after reading the warning message that your computer's data will be overwritten.

    • 6). Select "Factory Recovery" from the menu. Click "Restore." Click "Continue" at the confirmation dialogue box.

    • 7). Click "OK" at the dialogue box that reads, "Do not power off during this process." Click "Next" at the "Restore Factory Contents" dialogue box warning.

    • 8). Select "I accept" at the "Terms and Conditions" window. Click "Next" to initiate the recovery process.

    • 9). Remove the first recovery CD when prompted onscreen. Insert the second recovery CD, as directed by the "Rescue and Recovery" program. Your computer will reboot once the restoration process is complete.
