Starting problems in your 1995 Ford Probe can be caused by many different issues. The core symptoms include: cranking but not starting, no cranking and hard starting. All of these symptoms can be caused by several problems, and some of the symptoms share a common cause. - When your 1995 Ford Probe cranks over but does not start, there are several components that can cause this problem. One main issue is that the engine is getting little to no fuel. This lack of fuel can be caused by a faulty fuel pump, bad fuel pump relay, blown fuel pump fuse, clogged fuel filter or even a broken fuel line. Faulty spark can cause this as well. Other issues to consider include a failing ignition coil, cracked or worn spark plug wires, a cracked distributor cap or a failing ECU.
- If the engine does not turn over when you turn the key, you most likely have a battery with not enough amperes to crank over the engine; a failing alternator or an excessive voltage draw, with the key off, are also common causes of a weak battery in the Probe. There are other causes of this problem as well, including loose wiring, a failing starter motor or even a faulty ignition switch.
- Your Ford Probe may start easily on occasion but will sometimes take repeated attempts to get the engine to turn over. This is usually caused by low fuel pressure because of a failing fuel pump, clogged fuel filter or even a leaking fuel injector. This may also be caused by a vacuum leak as this can cause the ignition timing to be advanced, which causes hard starting. Another issue could be with ignition spark, caused by a failing ignition wire, a cracked distributor or even a worn out ignition rotor.
